This post describes how to get on page one of google. Often, getting a top 10 ranking, and all the web traffic that comes with a top ranking, is more than just luck, but some people do manage to get on the first page of google for a certain search phrase just by writing good quality content. That is the biggest key, and I’ll explain why in a second.
If your goal is to find a keyword and then be on the first page of google’s search results, you’ll need to follow a plan, which I’ll outline here.
Let me ask you something. Do you know what is the google page clients are most likely to use when they are looking for a page one listing? It’s the google keyword tool!
Ok, let’s get started. First up, you’ll need a smidge of seo, or search engine optimization. What this means is your web page’s title should contain your target keyword, and the headline on your page (every page should have a headline, or “h1″ tag as their called in geek speak). Then, depending on the term you choose to rank for, you may need to include it one or more times in the content of your webpage.
Good seo always says to write first to your reader, and not the search engines. If you write for your reader first and foremost, you’ll do better in your rankings.
The main reason for this is something called a bounce rate. A bounce rate is the percentage of people who click over to your website, and then hit the back button to find another result. If your bounce rate is high, your placement in the search engines will drop, so make sure people find what they are looking for. Deliver what is promised by your page’s title.
If your page has an email form for your business, be sure to include privacy statements and online contact information, and mention anything special about your sites, in case it helps you visitors understand your site.
Another important fact is the competition you face. If you try to rank for a highly competitive word, like “insurance”, you may need to spend years to get on the first page on google. So what you need to do is do a little analysis and see how hard it is to compete for that search term.
One way you can check the difficulty of a certain phrase is to use some of google’s search modifiers (things you put in front of your search term).
The search modifiers we are interested in are “inurl”, “intitle” and “inanchor”. These modifiers simply say “find page with this term in the title”, and “find pages with this term in the url” (the web address).
The “inanchor” means find pages that have a link pointing to this page using the search term.
Here’s a sample for using inurl and intitle for the search term “insurance”.

Notice how we have restricted the pages we are looking for, and still there are over 70 million results. If you dug in to the pages listed, you’d find they are very strongly ranked, with millions of incoming links, and very established domains, with great structure and content (ie: very hard to compete with!).
So, the trick is to choose a term that has light competition (you want search results already listed, or else the term you are looking at has no traffic).
For this, your best bet is to get one of the keyword tools out there to do a quick analysis. The ones that I use for this are Market Samurai and Keyword Elite 2. There are others, but these two are the best bang for the buck.
If you are using Market Samurai, then choose “new keyword”, enter your keyword, then click on SEO Competition, then click “generate results”.
If the results show one or more entries with lots of green boxes, you have a shot at being on the first page. Here’s a sample result for “easy rose care”:
Once you find a relevant keyword with traffic (and yes, google “google keyword tool” to find the google page with their keyword tool that tells you the monthly traffic for any given keyword), then create your page, with the keyword in the url, in the title, and, if possible, in one or more links pointing to your page.
Then, write your page, and be sure to write relevent useful content that reader’s will appreciate. If you do this correctly, it can take as little as 12 minutes to appear in the google index, and less than 2 days to page one.
Getting on page one on google is a sure way to get many times more traffic than being on page 2 or below, and that’s because google’s results are highly relevent, and few people bother to go past the first page.
One of google’s most famous inventions, the google page rank, is something you should ignore. Honestly. Even google has said as much.
One other thing that a client is most likely to have done in addition to basic search engine optimisation is another technique that is impacting the rankings: Latent semantic indexing. This is a fancy way of saying “related words”, and google is very good at seeing how many related words your page has, and it uses this information in determining where to put your page in the results.
If you look at the current top listing, find related phrases they all use, and then use those same phrases, you’ll do even better in your rankings.
Like all things, of course, there are tools to help you with many of the steps listed here, but you can do everything free if you are on a budget.
If you have a blogging platform like wordpress, it will do a lot of things to help you too, like pinging other websites.
If you too work hard to get your rankings, remember that in many ways, there is some art involved.
You can create a video to put on your web page, and if you check your traffic log, people will come and watch your video – it’s a way to do a little work now, and get results that last for a long time. That’s about as good as it gets.
If you follow these steps, you can usually get a top 10 ranking in one day, and if you do it right, it will stay in the top 10 listings for many months, even years into the future.
So guys and girls, give it a try, and see how following this system can create many top 10 rankings.

Hey Jack,
This SEO information looks very interesting to me.
This is the first info I have seen that looks legitimate
enough that I am going to try it out !
SEO is a foreign language and, quite frankly, there are 1,000’s of
posts out there claiming if you buy their “thing” that you will be
#1 on Google within “X” time…usually 24 hours.
As for myself I have only run solo ads to generate traffic.
And I am looking at Get Response Power Leads as they are
highly targeted and can be had ….a live opt in lead…for about .40C.
per lead.
I have been told that I need to get an externally hosted wordpress
blog going in order to get some ranking with key words and that
I should target keywords with searches of 5,000 or less in order
to obtain some upper page Google ranking.
Right now I have about 74 active members sponsored into The 7 Figure Marketing School and am making about $2,500 a month.
Attrition takes away about 10 – 15 members a month so up
until now I have managed to beat the attrition rate and grow
some every month, but my Rachel Long Solo ads are about
to run out and…they have been very good up until now !
Any suggestions you have for me would be appreciated.
Thanks so much!
Sincerely,
Stephen James
Thanks for great advise.
Looking forward to work with you.
